Choices, Choices! Research Post The Nanny Diaries:

The Nanny Diaries is a novel written by Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus in 2002 while they were students at New York University's Gallatin School of Individualized Study. Both McLaughlin and Kraus are former nannies, now living in New York.

The book mocks upper class Manhattan society as seen through the nanny’s point of view. These two nannies have exposed the truth behind the private childcare business and the behaviors of those more privileged through this wild rumpus of a ride. Nanny gets wound up in the wealthy upper Park Avenue home cooking, cleaning and caring for a child while she experiences the selfishness that is Mr. and Mrs. X. This novel has some romance and coming of age themes, reflecting Nanny’s job and personal life.

The novel was made into a popular movie “The Nanny Diaries” starring Paul Giamatti, and Laura Linney. It was released on August 24, 2007.

I would be interested to see how you connect this to The Girl with the Pearl Earring as they are set in drastically different eras. :)
